In an effort to help raise money for local breast cancer patients and their families, Carlisle Title joined nearly 4,000 walkers in the sixth annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk on October 29th. Held at the University of Texas at Arlington, our staff members honored breast cancer survivors wearing pink and educating their families about the disease.
The American Cancer Society created Making Strides Against Breast Cancer community walks in 1993 to build awareness and to fight the disease across the nation. In that time, 10 million walkers have collected more than $594 million. In north Texas in 2015, walkers raised more than $430,000. Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among U.S. women other than skin cancer, and is the second leading cause of cancer death. The Society projects that 16,800 new cases will be diagnosed this year in Texas women.
About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of more than 3 million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society’s efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the U.S. since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress, nearly 14 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year.
